What you may be able to do is find someone with snap chat (the emojis are higher quality and you can blow them up bigger), and then choose the emojis you want and print them off as large as you need them. You could then use them as your pattern and sew pillows up like this tutorial. Or maybe even use felt for all the parts and make them little and the second graders might be able to learn a simple whip-stitch and hand-sew small pillows themselves. Like 6 inch in diameter or smaller. Because felt doesn't fray, you could hand sew them that way. Hopefully that makes sense or is in some way helpful. Let me know if you have other questions! I could use them for a 2nd grade class project. I am not a good artist, so am looking for a pattern for all the features. Please let me know. Instead of drawing a circle (like for the emoji pillow in this post), I drew an outline of the koala emoji, and then drew a half inch line outside of that (to allow for the half-inch seam allowance). I drew the nose shape and eye shapes onto cardstock/stiff paper and then traced around those on to felt (white for the white part of eye, black for the black part of eye, dark grey for nose, etc.) and cut them out. Then I sewed the eyes and nose on like I did for this emoji pillow. The ears are a little trickier. I drew the shape of the ears into cardstock (as a pattern), and then traced that onto the fabric that I had folded so when I cut it out I would get two pieces of fabric that shake. So for each ear I cut two pieces of fabric (mirror images of each other) and then sewed around the edges and turned the fabric right side out. Then I sewed the base of the ears onto the face piece of the pillow, with the ears being sewn towards the center of the face, so that when we turn the pillow right-side out the ears would stick out the correct way. It's confusing, I know. Perhaps I'll make another koala pillow and take some pictures and do another quick tutorial so that it makes more sense!
